Meet Karlia, a mechanic, tattoo enthusiast & equestrian extraordinaire

Where do you live?

I live on a 4 1/2 star resort and 650 acre beef property where my partner runs the beef cattle side and is also the horse/trail ride supervisor . At the moment we’re surrounded by lots of cute calves wonderful trail horses.

Tell us about your horse?

In four words quirky, stubborn, mole and honest.

I always said I’d never own a mare or a thoroughbred and I broke both those rules with Delly and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

When I first got her she came with her own set of issues which we’ve worked through bit by bit. It’s been a slow road to get her confident but whatever she does she gives it her all.

These days she’s whatever I need her to be – eventer… sporter… dressage pony… cow chaser… you name it Delly does it and does it well.

I also have the chance to ride the 13 other horses we have on the property so I get to experience lots of different horse personalities!

Describe a typical day for you:

Usually it starts at 6.30am with my little puppy, Twiggy waking me up. …Very loudly, before I head off to work.

On days off I either ride Delly and newbies coming into the trail riding team. Or head off to a competition.

Doing it for Dolly

What equestrian dreams are you chasing?

My ultimate goal is to just purely enjoy riding and my horse… the day I stop enjoying it and it becomes a chore is the day I stop.

Currently we’re competing EvA60, with fingers crossed for a EvA80 start soon.  Longer term its to compete at 1m – and I truly believe Delly is capable of that.

How would you describe your personal style?

Errr…Hillbilly Bogan? ?

I love being comfy and practical which is necessary on the property! I live in a pair of jeans, my ariat boots and a comfy t-shirt and jumper.

However I do have an except to the rule – I love pink, anything pink.

What problems does your Sweet Iron gear solve?

Being such a traditional sport, Sweet Iron allows me to show my rebel side and let’s be honest who doesn’t love skulls & unicorns??

The gear is super comfortable and flattering and the PopTops dont make you feel like your being strangled like a normal show shirt usually does.  The gloves actually fit my garden gnome sized hands and child sized wrists which is a bonus too ?
