Handmade & Creating Jobs for Independence
Old Bags Accessories are masterfully crafted by the local Bacchus Marsh women with disabilities. The opportunity for paid work is an important step towards independence.
This is a wholly commercial agreement with no grants or subsidies. The women are remunerated above award rate for their craftswomanship
Repurposing to avoid landfill
Unlike reams of icky polyester or ‘end of roll’ scrunchies that may or may not be what they say they are, these scrunchies are 100% unique and obviously so.
They are sewn from pre-loved garments (bought from Vinnies, Salvos and other Op Shops)… The garments are chosen by me (totes my favourite job) due to their super funky patterns.
They seem pretty pricey…just sayin’
Right!? So it seems the people who invented mass production were onto something …
The stuffing around that goes with collecting and cleaning these things is pretty hectic…then there’s dropping them off to the women, the stitching and picking them up again. It would be so much easier, cheaper and faster if they were all made in one place from a big roll of clean, uniform material.
On the plus side, these things are so tough and well made, they will probably outlive you so you can consider them a family heirloom AND a super sharp fashion accessory
Disclaimery Stuff
Due to the super short run of individual styles, the scrunchies are grouped together in colours – rather than listed individually. So your scrunchie may be similar to what’s shown in the photos – but obvs not exactly the same. If you have any special requests i.e. paler, darker etc then please let me know if the order comments xx
